Have you been putting off redecorating your home because of budget issues? We get it - furniture and decor can be expensive. Really expensive. Just decorating one room can set you back a hefty sum. But you can always find inexpensive gems (and we’re not just talking about Ikea!) if you steer clear of full priced furniture and home decor stores. Take a browse at some (or one) of the options below and you should be able to pick up a few budget-friendly pieces to spruce up your home.

Thrift shops

They’re a haven for finding cool, affordable clothes. But thrift shops are also great for finding home decor! Certain thrift shop are clothes-only, but others also carry other amazing trinkets at very reasonable prices.

Yard sales/estate sales

As they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Yard sales may have a bad rep but don’t be so quick to dismiss them. You never know what someone’s situation is. They might be downsizing or moving to another city/country and have a bunch of amazing decor they need to get rid of ASAP! Besides, the sellers will be in everything must go mode and will probably be willing to throw in free extras (ex. Cushions with the couch). Make a day of it and hit up a posh neighborhood during yard sale season, you never know what you’ll find!

Closing sales

As mentioned above, you’ll find the best deals when it’s an everything must go sale. If you find out that a furniture or home decor store is closing, definitely check it out. And the closer to the closing date, the better. Sometimes items can get marked down as low as 90% off!

Prop sales

These are harder to find out about, but if you know anyone that works in the retail or film industry reach out to them. Once a store or film set is done with their seasonal decorations, they often sell them for next to nothing or even give them away for free!

Outdoor markets

Do some research on outdoor markets in your city and you may end up with a bunch of goodies. Here you can often find independent vendors who are just starting out - therefore cutting out the middleman and all the other things that lead to high retail markups. These are also great to check out when you’re travelling. Leave a bit of space in your suitcase for some unique home decor items that also double as souvenirs.

Online

Of course, you can always find great deals without even leaving the comfort of your bed. And there are so many options! There’s always Amazon, Etsy, Ebay, and Aliexpress, but also check out specialty retailers like Wayfair, World Market, H&M Home, Uncommon Goods, Urban Outfitters and Modcloth.
