Do you ever find yourself wishing you made better use of your morning commute? Lots of us like to do relaxing things like scroll through social media or play games. And while there’s nothing wrong with that, they’re activities that don’t really stimulate the brain or help us improve our day (cute animal videos aside).

It’s said that practicing something for just 15 minutes a day can help you learn a new skill. Your commute may be just the time and place for it. Give instagram and candy crush a break by downloading a few new handy apps.

1. Duolingo.

Being bilingual is cool. Being multilingual is simply impressive. Learning a new language opens you up to an entirely new culture, as well as boosting brain power, improving memory, and may even help you land a better job. Duolingo is probably the most popular language app out there. You’ll have 22 languages to choose from, and can even study a few at a time if you want to.

2. Vocabulary Builder.

If you’d rather improve your English first, there’s nothing wrong with that. Improve your lexicon with the Vocabulary Builder app. It works like a word of the day calendar, but it goes a step further by challenging you with more advanced words with every level you beat. It also keeps a timeline so you can track your progress.

3. Lumosity.

If you love playing games, this is the app for you. Lumosity is an app that features brain-training games. Their aim is to improve memory, focus, problem-solving, and overall brain functions. Step aside candy crush!

4. Health IQ.

This app teaches you about healthy living in a fun way, via quizzes from real doctors. The goal is to help you make more informed decisions about your diet and lifestyle. It’s the perfect app to browse before picking up some groceries on the way home!

5. Khan Academy.

As the name suggests, this app is a virtual academy that will allow you to learn at your own pace. Khan Academy is a 100% free way to learn something new. It has thousands of articles of videos on a vast array of topics.

6. DailyBrain.

Not exactly sure of what you want to learn? Try DailyBrain. You’ll definitely learn something new every day. It’s basically an extensive collection of interesting facts that you’re able to learn about.

7. ToDoist.

Maybe you just want to get organized. ToDoist will make it very simple for you. All you need to do is write down your tasks, and ToDoist takes care of the rest. It will categorize all your tasks and even send you reminders. You even have the option of sharing your lists with other people (coworkers, family, friends).

Spending a bit of time on at least one of these apps will make your daily commute more fulfilling and interesting. But we’re all for dedicating a few minutes for funny videos too!
