We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It’s been proven to kickstart your metabolism and curb your appetite later on in the day. In other words, having breakfast will help you maintain your figure or even lose weight if that’s the goal. But some people just aren’t hungry when they wake up, and the thought of eating first thing in the morning may even make them nauseous. This doesn’t mean you should continue skipping breakfast, as that will just wreak havoc on your metabolism and possibly lead to gaining weight. Below we’re sharing some easy, healthy, and light breakfast ideas that you can have within the first few hours of waking up to get you in the breakfast habit.
But first, drink water. This shouldn’t be your breakfast but it will wake up your metabolism and therefore make it easier to start eating. Make it hot lemon water for an extra health boost.
Go liquid if you don’t like the idea of having something solid first thing in the morning. This also won’t cut into your morning routine too much as they are quick to make and you can sip on them throughout the morning. You can even make yours before bed if you really don’t want to wake up earlier than you already do. Plus, there are so many options. Go sweet with berries and fruit, savory with greens, or hearty with nut butters. Just pick your ingredients and blend with milk or yogurt. You can also add ingredients like chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, and oats for extra nutrients.
Fruit & Yogurt Parfait
Light, tasty, and healthy. Simply mix your fruits of choice (berries, apricots, peaches, etc) with yogurt. You can also add nuts, seeds, and/or granola for some extra protein.
Chia seeds are the superfood taking the world by storm right now. They’re packed with all sorts of nutrients and are an excellent way to start your day. You can quickly make yourself a chia pudding before bed. All you need to do is mix a few tablespoons of chia seeds with milk - use 3 or 4 tablespoons for one cup of milk. Stir/shake well and leave overnight. Then you can add whatever ingredients you like - berries, fruits, nut butters, chocolate. Chia seeds are flavorless and will absorb the flavor of anything you add to it.
Avocado or nut butter toast
Who doesn’t love toast? Just one slice in the morning will do the trick of waking your metabolism up. Choose a healthy topping like avocado, which is full of healthy fats and vitamins, or a protein-rich nut butter. Both options are light enough to stomach if you’re not overly hungry but hearty enough to tide you over until lunch.
